Doctrine and Covenants 88:62-63
And again, verily I say unto you, my friends, I leave these sayings with you to ponder in your hearts, with this commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall call upon me while I am near --Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Happy Autumn, Everyone!!  Isn't it beautiful?

I am sending you three general reminders, for the whole ward:

1)  Most of you have already heard that our sweet Mary Brady passed away.  Tomorrow (Saturday, October 26) is Mary's funeral at the Provost chapel (behind Provost Elementary School) at 11:00 a.m.  The viewing is from 9:00-10:45 a.m., just prior to the funeral.  If you have volunteered to bring food for the luncheon, thank you so much, and please deliver it to the Provost building by 11:00.  And if anyone wanted to bring food but didn't get to sign up, Gayle Nielsen says we could still use another salad.  Thanks, everyone.

2)  This coming Tuesday, October 29, is our ward Halloween party.  There will be a chili cook-off, which means there will be food to eat, too! Sign-ups will be available this Sunday for the cook-off and for additional food items (like corn bread).  The party, which is from 6-8 at our ward building, includes dinner, games, and trunk-or-treating.  If you plan to participate in the trunk-or-treating, please bring candy for 100 little treaters.  Costumes are encouraged, but please, no masks.

3)  Please update your information, and upload a picture if you haven't already done so, on the ward directory at lds.org.  If you do not yet have an account with lds.org, you can create one by using your lds membership number, which can be found on your temple recommend or by asking the ward clerk.  This is an easy and convenient way for us to stay updated together.  Let's do it!

The following is a letter from the First Presidency:

"September is National Hunger Action Month, and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah are encouraged to donate nonperishable food during this year's 'Hunger Action Month' food drive scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2013.  Canned meats, peanut butter, and canned vegetables and fruits are especially needed."

Our ward Young Men will be transporting the canned goods for us this Saturday (the 21st).  If you have a bag of canned goods on your porch by 9 a.m., they will pick it up and deliver it to the food bank.

Thanks for your support of this effort!

PIONEER DAY!!

Our Stake Summer Social this year is on Pioneer Day.  It is a stake breakfast, following the multistake temple-to-temple 5K.  The 5K is for many stakes--the breakfast (at Memorial Park on Center Street and 8th East) is just for our stake.  But they would like to have an idea of how many are coming to ensure they have plenty of food for everyone!  So please go to the blog at provotemplerun.blogspot.com (or, more specifically, you can go to provotemplerun.blogspot.com/p/stake-pioneer-day-activities.html) and let them know you are coming!

You can still register for the 5K, but the shirts are no longer available if you haven't already registered. You also have the option of just showing up and running!  The 5K starts are 8, the breakfast at 9.  What a great way to celebrate Pioneer Day!  Come and join the fun!!

Our dear, sweet sister Aloha Porter passed away Friday morning, April 19.

The family is planning to have the viewing Friday night (April 26th) at Walkers.  The funeral will be Saturday morning (April 27th) at the Provost Building starting at 10 AM.

There will be a luncheon at our ward building following the funeral. If you are available to help with the luncheon, please contact Gayle Nielson.

We will miss our lovely Aloha.  Our prayers and thoughts are with Bud and his dear family.
