This will be paid out to you if your referral is hired and meets their four month commitment.

Please encourage family and friends to apply. Applicants may apply online at www.nuskin.com. All applicants must be dependable, hardworking, and have excellent customer service skills. Applicants must also be able to commit to at least four months in the Support Services Department. These positions are scheduled to close on January 10, 2012, but may close early due to a high number of applicants, so please have all applications turned in as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Natalie Boyce via email @nkboyce@nuskin.com or at x4427 or Chelsea Arroyo via email @ carroyo@nuskin.com or at x2511. Thank you, we appreciate your help with recruiting!

Also, Jandy Barry has been watching a 2 year old little girl and won't be able to anymore. She is wondering if anyone is interested in babysitting the little girl. Here are a few details about the situation:

The days would be Mondays, Tuesdays and some Saturdays from 9:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. depending on her work schedule. It goes from 9ish at night until 7ish in the morning. The mom pays $10 per night--which is not a lot so whomever took over would have to look at it as a kind of service project. The family is not LDS. They are from Pennsylvania and don't know a lot of people so their babysitter resources aren't too great. They really need someone who can take care of their daughter since they didn't have a great experience with the previous babysitter before Jandy. If anyone is interested, please call Jandy at 8019953190 or at jandy.barry@gmail.com.

Help Needed Cleaning the Church

Sisters,

Due to Stake Conference we lost a Sunday for sign ups for church cleaning and there is only one person signed up for Monday Nov. 14th. We need 3-4 people/couple/families to email Miriam Tracy at imatracy@gmail.com to volunteer to help clean the church on Monday Nov. 14th.

Below is part of an article in the October 2000 Ensign that talks about this very thing. :) Enjoy!

While at Church one Sunday I was handed a list of jobs to do to help clean the meetinghouse. “I realize this is short notice,” said the bishop’s counselor. “It won’t be a problem, will it?” I almost said, Yes, of course it will be a problem. We are moving in two weeks. Still, my daughter and I showed up the following Saturday. Only one other sister came to help. A bit irritated that no one else had come, I nevertheless took the small vacuum and began in one of the classrooms. The vacuum obediently consumed each crumb, scrap of paper, and particle of dust it encountered. I made my way slowly, methodically through doorways, around chairs, and under chalkboards, removing evidences of past projects and lessons.

Unaccountably, peace settled around me with the hum of the machine. Doors opened. Doors closed. The mortal task continued, and I found in its simple monotony a growing gratitude for the One whose building I at first reluctantly agreed to clean. He who consistently removes the earthly debris from the corners of my life sometimes moves me in and out of doors that at times make little sense to me—except that I know that it is His hand that continually guides me through.—Lorinda Smith, Missoula Second Ward, Missoula Montana Stake

Fall Harvest Recipes

Zucchini Soup - Jandy Barry

1 ¼ lb zucchini, unpeeled and sliced thin
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
¼ c butter
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 med. Onion, chopped
½ tsp. salt
1 can chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup
½ cup of light cream or evaporated milk
Sautee onion and zucchini in butter until limp. Add chicken broth and simmer covered 15 min.
Puree in blender and add cream of chicken soup, nutmeg, salt and pepper and cream.
Blend, heat and serve.
*Note: To make it healthier in the past, I’ve substituted olive oil for the butter. I also use skim evaporated milk. The soup always tastes great.

Bottled Apple Pie Filling - Jessica Smith

32 c apples, peeled and sliced (I fill up my stock pot about 5 inches from the
top)
Boil apples in water until softened. Drain and add ¾ c lemon juice
In big sauce pan combine:
5 ½ c sugar
1 T cinnamon
2 ½ c cold water
5 c apple juice
1 tsp nutmeg
1 ½ c modified food starch/clear gel ( I buy this at Macey’s and you need to
sprinkle it in so it doesn’t clump)
Boil until mixture thickens.
Mix apples and sauce mixture and return to a boil for 1 minute. Pour into
jars leaving 1 inch headspace. Process for 35 minutes. Makes about 6-8jars.

Freezer Corn - Jessica Smith

12 c corn
1 cube butter
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp sugar
1 c water
Bring to boil, then simmer for 5 min.
Put on cookie sheets, and place in freezer
Break up and put in freezer bags.

Chocolate Zucchini Brownies - Judith Ann Benedict

1/2 c. margarine
1/2 c. oil
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. grated zucchini
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla (I used Mexican vanilla which gives a little different
flavor that I like)
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. cocoa
1/2 t. cinnamon
1 t. salt
1 t. soda
1 t. baking powder
Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. In another bowl, cream the sugar,
margarine and oil together. Add eggs, zucchini, buttermilk and
vanilla. Then add the dry ingredients and mix well. Pour batter into a
9 by 13 pan that has been sprayed with PAM. Sprinkle with a topping of
3/4 c. each of chocolate chips and brown sugar. (In reality, I probably
had more chocolate chips and less sugar--chocolate is good!). Nuts can
also be added if desired. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.
(In my oven, 40 minutes is perfect)

Zucchini Bread - Jennifer Wilson

Mix:
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup cooking oil
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups grated zucchini
Spray loaf pan (or small loaf pans--about 4) with cooking spray.
Fill with batter. Bake 60 min. at 350° F.

Butternut Squash Soup - Betty Roberts

½ Cup diced white onion
5 cloves Garlic
½ Cup diced celery
4 Cups diced
½ Cup diced carrots
butternut squash**
1 tsp. fresh thyme or 1/4 tsp. ground thyme
2 ounces butter
Sautee above ingredients with butter until golden
brown. Include following ingredients:
5 Cups chicken stock
*2 Cups heavy cream
Add chicken stock and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add cream and simmer for 30 minutes. Puree and
strain through a fine sieve. Add salt and pepper to
taste. -- Chef Sparks Restaurant Provo, Utah

*I use half and half instead of heavy cream
** substitute ANY squash or pumpkin

Pumpkin Soup - Betty Roberts

First, select a pumpkin; cut out a 'lid' around the top stem; clean out the seeds and "strings";
If you are not going to serve the soup in the pumpkin, then slice the pumpkin into pieces and then cut the pumpkin into cubes, removing the flesh from the rind. You'll need 4-8 cups of pumpkin cubed.
IF you ARE going to serve the soup in the pumpkin, do NOT do it the hard way like I did. Buy a second pumpkin and slice and cube it as per the above instructions. I carefully (about 1 hours worth of work) scraped some of the pumpkin from the inside being very careful to NOT get too close to the rind so I COULD serve the soup in the pumpkin. I won't do that again. . .I'll buy 2 pumpkins!!

Boil the cubed (or scraped - - if you want to be crazy like me) pumpkin in 12-14 cups of water. When it's soft, use a strainer to separate the pumpkin from the water.

Put the water back in the soup pan and use one package of Cream Soup base that you buy from Courtney Frost.
Stirring in a little at a time and using a wire whisk, until you've used the entire package, you might need to add more water if the base is too thick for your preference.

Puree the pumpkin that has been simmered/boiled in water. Add it to the cream base. I actually bought a large can of pumpkin and used half of the can because I only had the one pumpkin and the soup didn't taste pumpkiney enough at first. I also sautéed 1/2 C. of each of the following in 2 Tab. butter:
1/2 C chopped onions 1/2 C chopped carrots 1/2 C. chopped celery
When these were tender, I pureed them and added them to the above ingredients. I also added 1/4 - 1/2 tsp ground thyme and 1/2 tsp garlic powder (NOT garlic salt).

I was experimenting with the above recipe by combining part of my Butternut Squash Soup recipe (I'm attaching it to this) with the cream powder base from Courtney Frost. But you may choose to just follow the Butternut Squash Soup recipe and substitute pumpkin (canned or fresh) for the butternut squash. If you use canned pumpkin, you might need to adjust the amount of pumpkin you add to the butternut recipe.

Using the cream powder base made a much larger quantity of soup than just the attached recipe (5 C. broth + 2 C. cream vs. 12-14 C. water with the powder base).

I hope this isn't too confusing and that it doesn't "sound" or "look" too complicated for you to give it a try. Have fun with it and make your own variation. Let me know if I can help and how it goes for you.

Peach and Pear Jam - Adrynne Chidester

12 peaches
6 pears
3 oranges, rind of 2, juice of 3
1 lemon, juice and rind
Grind fruit. Add equal amount of sugar. Let set overnight. Cook slowly 1 hour. Makes 7-8 glasses of jam.
I brought a variation of this to RS using 4 cups powdered sugar rather than the much larger quantity of table sugar that it called for. Also, I didn't set it in the fridge.

Zucchini Bread/Muffins/Cupcakes - Orva Miner

350 degrees 30 mins or less test it
2 C grated zucchini
3 eggs
1 C oil
2 C sugar
3 tsp vanilla
3 C flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
3 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp backing powder
1/2 C nuts (hers had none so optional)

Zucchini & Yellow Crookneck Squash Casserole - Orva Miner

(She made it up)
Slices of sweet unions
Slices of Zucchini
Slices of croockneck
(Layer them added salt and pepper)
Mixed
1/4 cube of butter
1/4 C oil
Poured over the layers added basil
Cover
Baked at 350 until soft
Added cheese, put back in oven without cover until cheese melted.

Free Tires for Gardening......

Gayle Schott who lives next to Wydonna and Marlo Anderson has been experimenting how

to grow gardens in Utah. She has finally hit on the best approach. She uses tires.

she will be redoing her garden this fall.

All except 5 of the tires she has are available to anyone wanting to try this

approach to gardening. The dirt in the tires will be included for those who want

them. She has some ready right now. They are in the alley behind her home and

can be picked up anytime. She still has some with peppers, eggplant, zucchini,

strawberries and melons but she won’t be ready to get rid of these until after the

first frost. If anyone is interested to see how well they work you can go to her

home and look. She would prefer to be there when you pick them up so Saturday mid

morning through the evening would be the best for her. Her address is 435 South 1450

East and her phone number is 801-602-0510 if you have any questions.

Eternal Sisters

This a poem shared by Betty Roberts:

ETERNAL SISTERS

Oh, look! She's coming!
Isn't it wonderful?
She's doing my work for me today
And she's smiling because she's here.
I'm so glad. I prayed that she would be happy today
And that she would leave her worldly cares outside
So she can sense that I am here with her,
And that I am thrilled to finally have my
Temple blessings so I can progress.
It's been such a long time...
I'm so glad that she is concentrating
On all the blessings she is receiving for me.
There are tears in her eyes.
I hope that she feels that, I too, have tears in mine.
How beautiful these blessings are!
How sweet and humble the ordinance workers are
And I really liked eh new name I received.
Isn't this a glorious endowment room!
Everyone looks so beautiful all in white.
I'm so glad they are all reverent
So I can understand the tokens, signs
And covenants I am making today.
How beautiful her voice is as she
Talks to the Lord through the veil...
The celestial room is magnificent and so peaceful
And now---I'm so glad she is kneeling at the alter for me
So I can, at last, be sealed to may family.
Thank you, dear sister, for doing this work for me today!
I must leave you now
But when you arrive in the Spirit World,
I will know you.
I will throw my arms around you
And I will thank you...and I will love you!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will restore a historic site in Pennsylvania

Formerly known as the town of Harmony, the site is in Oakland Township in Pennsylvania near the present-day town of Susquehanna. This site is important to Latter-day Saints as the location where Joseph Smith received the Aaronic Priesthood at the hands of John the Baptist and, in a nearby location, received the Melchizedek Priesthood from Peter, James and John in 1829. These men appeared as angels to restore to the earth the same authority they had received from Jesus Christ. The site is also significant as the place where Joseph Smith translated much of the Book of Mormon. These events laid the foundation for the restoration of the original Church established by Christ Himself.

The announcement letter from the First Presidency invites interested Church members to make a small, one-time contribution to the restoration project by specifying “Priesthood Restoration Site” on the Tithing and Other Offerings slip that is available from bishops and branch presidents. For more information on this please visit: http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/60801/Church-to-restore-historic-site-in-Pennsylvania.html
Sister Irene Gage is in the hospital. While she and her family appreciate visitors she is still really tired and her family would ask that she have a break from visitors for now. She will be moving to the rehabilitation center hopefully soon. We will let you know when that will take place and she'll probably be up for visits then. Thank you!

Happy Mothers Day

"President Gordon B. Hinckley stated that “God planted within women something divine.” That something is the gift and the gifts of motherhood. Elder Matthew Cowley taught that “men have to have something given to them [in mortality] to make them saviors of men, but not mothers, not women. [They] are born with an inherent right, an inherent authority, to be the saviors of human souls … and the regenerating force in the lives of God’s children.”
As daughters of our Heavenly Father, and as daughters of Eve, we are all mothers and we have always been mothers. And we each have the responsibility to love and help lead the rising generation." - Sheri Dew, Oct. 2001 - Are We Not All Mothers?

Our next Relief Society Meeting is under the topic Sharing the Gospel.
Tuesday April 5th @ 6:30pm
We will meet at Pat Davis's house (1256 E 400 S)
Irene Gage will be reading us the book:

We will also be eating Stone Soup.
After the story and eating of the soup we will be going around to a few different sister's houses in the neighborhood to see their gardens and ask questions and receive tips from them. We will have a handout prepared to give to the sisters with gardening tips as well.
We would also like to have a "follow-up meeting" in a few months where the we can come and share things about our gardens. Like what things worked for our gardens and what didn't etc. At that time we will also have a tasters table of items that you can bring and share that are made from items out of your garden.
