Passing of Sister Rasmussen

We were so sad to hear about the passing of one of our dear sisters, Diane Rasmussen.  We love Diane and we will miss her sweet spirit.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.

Diane Louise Porter Rasmussen

Diane Louise Porter Rasmussen returned peacefully to her heavenly home on December 13, 2012 after a short battle with lung cancer. She graduated from Provo High School in 1970 and went on to work with the children of Provo schools as an occupational physical therapist.
Diane was a good example of love, service and sacrifice, to everyone she knew. She had a love for dance. She taught ballet and tap for years. She loved roses and found joy in being in her garden.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ed and their children Jenny (Ryan), Julie, David and Jeff; siblings Dave (Sue), Jan, Jean (Greg), John (Lisa), Ben (Kerry), Kenny, Mike (Chris), Jim (Cheryl) and her mom Anne Marie.

Giving Tree

THE GIVING TREE

We will be doing a Giving Tree again this year for Christmas to help families from our ward. The Giving Tree will be in the east foyer before church and during church it will be right outside the Relief Society room each Sunday. If you are willing and able to help please select an ornament from the tree and on the paper next to the tree write down your name next to the number that corresponds with the number on the ornament. Please bring the wrapped gift with the ornament attached to the outside of the present with the number showing and turn it into the Clerks office or a member of the Relief Society Presidency. We will need to have all the gifts turned in by Sunday December 16th. If you have any questions please contact Jean Evans 801-372-3706.  Thank you.

New Bishopric Sustained

Hi Sisters!

We hope everyone was able to attend Sacrament Meeting yesterday.  If you were not able to be there we'd like to let you know a new Bishopric was sustained:

Bishop: Bill Rudy
First Counselor: Bryce Bunting
Second Counselor: Duane Wilson
Executive Secretary: John Pigott

This quote was on the front of the Sacrament Meeting program yesterday:

"By our sustaining vote, we make solemn promises.  We promise to pray for the Lord's servants and that He will lead and strengthen them.  We pledge that we will look for and expect to feel inspiration from God in their counsel and whenever they act in their calling. ...As we raise a hand to sustain a person, we commit to work for whatever purpose of the Lord that  person is called to accomplish."
President Henry B. Eyring, Called of God and Sustained by the People.

Please remember to keep our Bishopric and their families in your prayers. :)

Happy New Year!!!!

Happy New Year!
By Emily Watts

"I know the calendar suggest that New Year's Day is on January 1--and believe me, I appreciate the extra holiday so close to Christmas.  My tree would probably be up until Easter otherwise.  But for me, the day that really seems to signal a new year--or at least a new beginning--is September 1.
This is when we finally set aside the decadent summer chaos of midnight bedtimes and spontaneous weekend trips and avoidance of cooking and housekeeping.  Delectable as all those things can be, they begin to wear on me, like too large a helping of chocolate cake (if, indeed, such a thing exists).  I long for the plainer fare of schedules and structure.
September brings my life back into sane proportions,  The kids are happily occupied in school, not yet overwhelmed with an accumulation of term projects, but productively engaged in getting the learning machine back into gear.  Clean lockers, just-bought clothes, unspoiled notebooks, fresh boxes of colored pencils all the same length--these are the symbols of a new start for them.
Encouraged by their renewed resolve, I find myself looking for ways to bring greater accomplishments into my own life as well.  This year, I want to work on being truer to what I know in my heart is right for me.  This is partly due to the passing of Elder Maxwell and Elder Haight, which left me pondering, Have I been as faithful a disciple in my small sphere as they were in their larger one?  Have I been as true to my life's mission as I might be?  Recognizing that I have many worthy alternatives to choose from, am I making the best choices for this stage of my life?
One thing I've discovered is that today's best choice does not necessarily carry over into tomorrow.  Circumstances change, and if I don't change with them I find myself feeling increasingly out of kilter.  I just have to start over every now and then.  This takes attention, prayer, and even some experimenting.  That's why I'm grateful for an "extra" new year's day in September, a time to pull myself together and rethink some things and ask for guidance for the next leg of the journey.
So, although I'm not going to stay up until midnight to mark the occasion, may I wish you a very happy new year and another chance to make your life what you want it to be!" - Emily Watts  - Live, Love, and Learn; Devotional Messages for Women

Help With Fundraisers

The young women have decided to help Gale Cotten by making items for the Festival of Trees Gift Shop and Lonnete wanted to know if anyone had yarn that they would be willing to donate to the cause! They will start working on projects on Wednesday, August 29.
Please contact Lonnete Stoddard if you have questions, or would like to donate yarn. Her contact information is
Email: lonettes58@yahoo.com
Home phone: 801-375-1786
Work phone: 801-422-2062

Also, Judith Ann Benedict would like to share some information about a fundraiser for her daughter Serena who is battling cancer. The information is below:
Some friends of our daughter, Serena, are doing a fund raiser for her cancer treatment on Saturday, August 18 from 10 to 4 in Memorial Park (on Center Street and about 800 East) They will be having a Kick-a-thon and author signing, music, etc.

To go with all of this, we are trying to organize a bake sale. If people in the ward have time to donate some cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. that would be great. Judith Ann will be home all day (baking) on Friday the 17th, so you could drop it by anytime. Or bring it to the park.

Serena is actually having surgery on Monday, so we would appreciate prayers in her behalf, too. Thanks so much.

We have a fabulous ward always willing to help out! Thank you sisters!!
One more thing: I will be going out of town early Wednesday morning and will not be available. And since Jean is out of commission right now that leaves Pat in charge. :) If you need anything please contact Pat. If you need an email sent out or something on the blog just send me an email and I'll get it out as soon as I get back. Thanks!
Kim :)

Royal Family - by Jewels Sharik

This poem was written by Sister Julee Sharik for the Bonneville 13th Ward Relief Society Birthday Celebration - Daughters of a King. We thought it appropriate to share here. You are welcome to have a copy for yourself or to share with others. Sister Sharik only ask that her name and the copyright symbol appear on every copy. Thank you!

ROYAL FAMILY

Stands the King alone, without a Queen?
No. Thou art thy Mother’s daughter
At the feet of two shining thrones were you prepared

To leave behind your royal robes
Fashioned of flowing silk, trailing laces and pearls
Taking up skirts and aprons of simple homespun
More suited to the stains made by honest sweat –

To set aside your satin slippers
Accustomed to whispering across streets of gold
Pulling on boots of a plain and sturdy sort
Cobbled for climbing steep and stony paths –

To exchange soft, white hands that never held a rose
Without first the thorns had been removed
For a calloused palm and blistered thumb,
Marks of honour won in the service of friends–

To trade banquets in a marbled palace
And tables swelled with plenty
For seasons of drought and times of want
Hungering and thirsting after higher things –
Stand you alone on this earth?
No. Thou art the sister of thy sisters
Though strangers in a foreign land
Each of us a princess still,
Recognizing on one another’s brow
Ornaments of grace,
Reminders from our Father, the King
Of who we are and from whence we came
Placed there by our Mother's hand

"King’s daughters were among thy honourable women
and upon Thy right hand did stand the Queen in gold"
Psalms 45:9

Free Plants!!!

Sister Gayle Neilson has some plants that she'll be getting rid of from in front of her railing. (They're going to be digging out that whole area soon). If anyone would like them, they are welcome to come dig them out. If they're not home, just help yourself.
Some of the plants they have in that area are:
Mums
A few spring flower bulbs
Clemantis (that is the huge vine that covers their railing. The actual base of the plant is on the North side of the railing). This is a really hardy plant, just 3 years ago Gayle cut it down to a little stump and it still keeps growing.
Lilly (in the South corner)
Rose bush that gets lots of small roses
Columbine
These are all plants that come up every year.

Lots of Info......

Hi Sisters!

Here's a quick thought for the week:

"Make your influence felt." — President George Albert Smith, p. 89 Daughters In My Kingdom.

We love you sisters and appreciate your willingness to share your gifts and talents the Lord has blessed you with to serve and lift one another over and over again. We have a few needs in our ward if anyone can help the information is below:

Shannon Wood is altering a wedding dress for someone and she is in need of a medium (or size 10-12ish) adjustable dressform to use. Hers is currently in Southern Utah. She has a stand, just not the dressform. If anyone is willing to let her borrow theirs for a few weeks she would be very grateful. You can contact Shannon at 801-824-6356.

Adrynne Chidister has boxes to pass along. If anyone needs them contact Adrynne at 801-725-5291.

Betty Roberts has a Dryer she is giving away to anyone who needs it. It’s an almond colored Kenmore and is about 23 years old. It works great and just had the heating element replaced with in this last year. If you are interested please contact Betty to make arrangements to pick it up. It will be available by Wednesday. 801-818-2036.

The Stake is looking for any wooden angels. Similar to the angel from Willowtree, or any angel statue.
They will be used for the Women's Conference as decorations on the tables for lunch. If you have one you are willing to lend to the Stake you will need to put your name on it and have them to Muffin Grayson by March 18th. They need 15-20 angels.
They also need about 10 plants that will also be used on the tables for decorations. So somewhat small ones. Those won't be needed until April 20th by 9pm. Muffin can come to your house and pick them up if I needed. Please contact Muffin if you are able to help. 801-691-4753.

Again thank you for all you add to our sisterhood! We love each one of you!!! And have a great week!!!

First Presidency Message - March 2012

Why Do We Need Prophets?

"Because Heavenly Father loves His children, He has not left them to walk through this mortal life without direction and guidance. The teachings of our Heavenly Father are not the ordinary, predictable, run-of-the-mill kind you can pick up in paperback at the local bookstore. They are the wisdom of an all-powerful, all-knowing celestial Being who loves His children. Encompassed in His words is the secret of the ages—the key to happiness in this life and in the world to come." - President Dieter F. Uchtdorf - Ensign, March 2012
